Igor Tkatchouk is founder and President of the Arthur Grumiaux International Violin Competition since 2008. In collaboration with Ulysse Waterlot, he is the founder of the “Ensemble of Young Soloists of Belgium”. He is currently a professor at the IMEP Conservatory in Namur. He started playing the violin at the age of 6. A year later, he passed the entrance exams to the Kiev Special School of Music (Ukraine).
In 1984 he entered the Kyiv Higher Conservatory in the class of E. Bouchinskaya (student of David Oistrakh). Participation in the H. Wieniawski and N. Paganini Competition, as well as several masterclasses (including with Zahar Bron) enriches your stage and violin experience.
At the end of the Conservatory, he obtained the Diploma in Concert Violinist and Chamber Music. He continued his postgraduate studies with Alexei Gorokhov (Laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition 1951, student of L. Tzeytlin and A.Yampolsky) at the Kyiv Conservatory in Ukraine, at the same time becoming a professor there. The following year he became professor of chamber music at the Kiev Music College. He was also a member of “Kiev”. Quintet, the “Kiev Camerata” Soloist Ensemble. He performed as a violinist in all European countries, also in China, Japan, Canada, Argentina, the United States, Latin America and North Africa.
He has performed as a soloist in the Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Bach and Vivaldi Concertos. In 1993, he won 3rd Prize at the International Competition in Paris. In 1996 he moved to Germany, where he performed as a soloist and member of the “Philharmonie der Nationen” Orchestra. From 1997 he moved to Belgium, where he worked at the Flanders Chamber Orchestra and the BRTN Orchestra (VRO, Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra). In 2004, following an accident, he ceased his activities as a violinist and began teaching exclusively. This made him an even better teacher, which led many of his students to win international competitions, placing him as one of the leading violin teachers today.
